About this app
Droid Dashcam is a great driving video recorder (dashboard camera, BlackBox) app for car/vehicle drivers which can continuously record videos in loop mode, add subtitles with needed information directly on those videos (read below) and record in background, autostart recording and much more.
Features:
* Hardcoded (embedded) Subtitles - Overlay Captions directly on Recording Video file:
- Timestamp (Date)
- Location Address
- GPS Coordinates
- Speed (based on GPS data)
- Vehicle registration plate (car number)
* Background Video Recording - you can continue recording in background and use other apps which doesn't use camera. You can also use notification panel to start/stop recording while this app is running in background.
* Loop Recording - auto deleting old video files when there is not enough space for new videos (you can set max space usage for all videos)
* Options for autostarting recording on charging on/off, on system boot, on Bluetooth device connection/disconnection, AUX-cable connection, or on app launch
* Small (Lightweight) app size
* Automatic change of day and night video recording mode
* Landscape and Portrait Orientations for video recording
* Share or upload a selected video to various services
* Recording in Shared Movies folder or App owned folders (phone and external SDcard storages) - can be set in the settings
* Lock videos from overwriting (G-shock sensor) on impact detection

Works great! free and worth more than a full system if you have a good phone. I use this on my motorcycle handlebars mounted phone; always catches the action and just as good as your phone video can perform but works in the background. i also use auto start with Bluetooth device so when my helmet speakers are turned on, video it recording till i turn it off. easy to find,watch and save.

LOVED how it worked. However, after any 5th or 6th time using it. I noticed my battery on my phone was almost drained completely after 30 minsof using it? When I looked at my battery usage it says it was running for 4 1/2 hours!?... but i only used it for 30 mins and I know I stopped the recording and shutdown the app. Somehow... its still running in the background. happened multiple times. I went through battery settings on the app and phone and they are correct and optimized.

App is great, allows for audio/video recordings, tons of customization settings, only thing I wish it had was video resolutions that are wider than they are tall when the phone is in the portrait mode, as currently if the phone is in portrait, a lot of the frame is my dashboard/the sky. (Also the highet resolutions tend to be for horizontal, not vertical recording.

Love the features of the app, but there are two major drawbacks. First, even when the phone is charging and the app is running in the background with the screen off, it drains the battery. Second, probably as a result of the first, it causes the phone to get VERY hot, even in a cool car when it's not in direct sun. Hot enough that the phone goes into its overheating modes. We may have to try another app if we can't reconcile these issues.

App seems to work well and is very easy to setup, I'm using the auto start feature for when the phone connects to my car Bluetooth. Never have to remember to start it, just put my phone in the holder and go! Haven't needed to use any footage yet, but it's move to know it's there just in case 🤞 Only thing I'd like to see changed is the notification in the status bar. You can turn it off, but when it's on its always there, I'd like it better if it was only there while recording then went away.

This app does everything it claims to do. The only issue I've run across is, when it's raining, the phone has trouble with focus. I get a nice clear image if raindrops on my windshield. Perhaps there's an option to set the focal length, but I haven't found it. It would also be amazing if front and back phone cameras could record. Tall order, I know. Warms up my phone, but the rolling record doesn't take up very much storage space and it's easy enough to permanently save a video.
