About this app

With this app, you can check the GPS reception in your area and update AGPS data for faster fix times, whilst being able to view other GPS and sensor data. The app acts as a one-stop place for viewing: your altitude, accurate UTC plus local time, your compass heading, the moon phase and daylight hours. It supports GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, SBAS, BEIDOU and QZSS satellites. The app has various different colour schemes which can be changed according to your tastes, including a night mode. The colour schemes can also be used to match other instrumentation alongside the app.

GPS Test has six different screens:

•GPS signal (SNR) bar chart, showing the signal strength for each satellite, as well as the accuracy and status of the GNSS network

•Satellite positions in the sky (sky view) shown on a rotating compass

•Your current location on the earth shown as text and on a world map. The current position of the sun and the day/night transition curve is also shown

•Compass

•Your current speed, heading and altitude are shown as text

•The current time read from the GPS and the local time in your current time zone, as well as the sunrise and sunset times at your location

One big issue: on my Pixel phones (6 Pro and 10 ProXL) The app does not respect the Android information bars at the top and bottom of the screen. The app places its own menu options underneath those notifications, and they are inaccessible to touch. I can get to some of them by rotating the phone different directions. awkward. also, I don't see a way to export a fairly extensive list of waypoints that I have entered. I've upgraded phones and don't look forward to entering them all manually.

This app turns your phone or tablet into a very nice classic-style GPS. I especially like the speedometer and HUD modes. I use this app on an old cell phone zip-tied to my bicycle as a speedometer. It has more features and works better than a dedicated bike GPS speedometer. The only feature I would like to see added is an odometer. It would be a nice addition to the speedometer panel, where you could track your accumulated mileage over time.

I like this app for getting some idea of altitude. When you're looking at homes and trying to determine flooding potential. Sure, there's some variation in the altitude but at least you get some idea. Maidenhead coordinates are used by ham radio operators. Unfortunately, the Maidenhead coordinates are coming out backwards. Once you know that, you can work around it but prior versions didn't have that problem.

Great app that I've used for years, but really needs an update to display dual frequency satellites, whether you're getting l1 or l5 bands. First update in ages and the only thing that's changed is things that used to be free now require a premium subscription. Considering there are much better GPS test apps out there that I use for work and device testing, I don't see any reason why I would pay for this one. It's not expensive, but...

This is a great app for displaying speed and altitude, checking the GPS, and seeing what it's doing when the GPS is struggling for a fix. The only thing I need that it doesn't have is damping the speed, course and altitude display. It would be great if the user could set a time period over which the readings are averaged. When I'm on a ship or plane, the numbers jump around, but I know the course and speed isn't changing that often.

From a purely "user" aspect, I've always loved this app for it's ease of use and ability to utilise additional features. Great for working out the speed, altitude and current location when you're bored out of your head on your next international commercial flight. Even better if you're into hiking and want to know how high that mountain you've just conquered really is. A great tool for getting the best out of the GPS receiver in your mobile phone or Android device. Highly Recommended
