About this app
Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz and Severe Weather Team 2 have made the most accurate local weather app, “The WSBTV Weather App,” even better. Atlanta’s most powerful weather app includes the following:
- There is a new radar in the weather app that matches the radar found on other digital platforms and also includes future radar to provide you with a likely path and outlook of storms. The radar has 250 meter resolution, the highest available.
- New tracks - We added earthquakes and storm tracks as layers in the radar. Now you can track the location and magnitude of earthquakes as well for storms the speed, direction and type. Tap the “storm symbols” icon in the radar to see the list.
- Push alerts are FREE for more than 25 alert types including everything from tornado warnings to winter storm warnings and tropical storm alert types.
- Now you can scroll through the home screen to access most of what you need or want on one tab.
- Locally crafted forecasts - Select a location inside the Atlanta market to see a local forecast created by WSB’s local weather experts. The app also tells you which member of Severe Weather Team 2 crafted the local forecast. National applications that come pre-loaded on your phone don’t have local experts focused solely on getting the local forecast right every day.
- Place a location pin precisely where you want it for a specific address or any position on a map. When saving a location you can name it exactly how you want it.
- The app works with identical features on tablet and handset.
The WSBTV Weather App also has these critical benefits and features:
- The app is constantly updated with the latest area storm and forecast information and includes Severe Weather Team 2’s 5-day Forecast with the “Weekend Always in View.”
- Live Stormtracker 2HD Radar zooms down to your neighborhood or zooms out to check radar anywhere in the country.
- It provides Location-Based Storm Alerts. While many other apps offer alerts based on your county, The WSBTV Weather App supports a more precise type of alert issued for the most dangerous types of weather threats. More precision means you get alerts that matter to you, not false alarms.
- Current conditions, hourly and daily forecasts for any location you enter.
- Level 3 interactive radar, animation/loops and visible satellite map
- Additional items added seasonally
- High resolution satellite cloud imagery
- Daily and Hourly forecasts updated hourly
- Ability to add and save locations
- A fully integrated GPS for current location awareness
*Data and alerting available for the United States only.

When the app works, it is fairly accurate. Unfortunately, I have to regularly uninstall, wait a few days, and then reinstall for the app to work. I tried un/reinstalling multiple times in one day and that failed, so I have to wait a few days to reinstall for it to work. I loved the accuracy, but the technical errors now outweighs the benefit of the app.

Overall it's a good app with decent radar, but it is VERY intrusive with its alerts using Brad's voice. Even if you go into settings and limit them, you will get multiple alerts for the same thing. I mean I got three alerts today for pollen count?? I only have my settings for severe weather alerts. Pollen is not an emergency. They need to work on the alert system and how often you get them, and make sure settings stick when you choose them.

Prior to the most recent update (2/26/19), the app was great. However, since this update, I have received a notification I cannot clear that reads, "Tracking location for severe weather alerting. Long press to manage notifications." l try to change the notification, but it continues to pop up daily. I am on an Android 7.0 OS. Please fix this.

I only use this during severe weather, and recently it's been completely useless for that. If there's a tornado warning in my area, I don't want to watch a 15 second ad before finding out if I'm in imminent danger. The live feed also cuts out after 15 seconds or so, at which point you have to restart the app and watch another ad to start streaming again. It's dangerous and ridiculous, and I'll be switching my default severe weather checks to a different station.

Local weather info and alerts are accurate and great. Using the app is terrible though. I understand needing ads, but spacing them within the app like, one bit of weather info, one ad, one bit of weather info, one ad... It makes it frustrating and impossible to quickly get the weather info you need. Every page is so busy and cluttered you can barely sort out what is weather info and what isn't. It would also be great to have a more customizable widget.

I had just recently updated the app, and though its says it fixes the bugs, the app still is bugging out. I'm just getting weather reports from six hours ago. I'm also trying to check the radar for precipitation, and its not even loaded properly. The service isn't all great where I am, but I can at least get the precipitation to pull up every time even before the update. But its not all bad. The weather reports are accurate even still. And the weekly forecast, as well. And the alerts do come in.
